Origin: Japan Shape: BuildingMaterial: Bronze
Period: Pre 1920 Location: The Kura
Description: Hut shaped bronze incense holder with removable roof dating to the first part of the 20th century. Vents in the roof and two windows allow the smoke to escape. The miniature building is propped up on four realistic posts and punctured by a round latticed window on one side, a large square window on the other. The entire piece is given a mud wall like texture. The thatched roof is peaked with a bundle of three logs cast separately from the main body. There is one pinhole in the bronze just below the circular window. The house measures 4 inches (10cm) wide, 3-1/2 inches (9cm) deep, 3-1/2 inches,(9cm) tall.
Description: Staffordshire Cottage Pastille Burner. A scented pastille was placed inside the cottage, set alight, and the smoke rose through the chimney. You could probably do the same today with a small incense cone, though these cottages are nowadays more often treated as cabinet pieces. 4.75" by 5.25".
Description: The hut is cast iron. The top is one single piece and the bottom is two pieces welded together.Removable roof all cast one piece with two small vent holes at the end of one log on top; one small vent hole under log faceing front. Bottom piece has a round window in the front with no holes in it and a door with a porch canopy? Left side has a square window with two large rectangular vents. Other side has a cresent moon shaped vent and a cut out corner. Back looks like frames and mud wall.
